Charlie is an award-winning screenwriter, director and producer who holds an MFA Film from Columbia University In The City Of New York.

In 2015 Netto co-wrote the award winning film One Night In Aberdeen (available on shortoftheweek.com) which premiered at the Calgary International Film Festival where it won Best Overall Short and the Enbridge Alberta Spirit Award.
Charlie and their co-writer were awarded Best Screenwriter –Drama Under 30 Minutes at the 2015 Alberta Film & Media (Rosies) Awards.

Netto then wrote and co-produced Operation: Clean Slate, a 21 minute teen heist film directed by Jayson Therrien. Operation: Clean Slate won Best Short Film at the 2021 Edmonton International Film Festival.

Charlie's writing, directing and producing career began in theatre.
From 2007 - 2017 they were co-founder and co-artistic Director of Swallow-a-Bicycle Theatre, a scrappy and spirited independent theatre company.
In 2016 Charlie and their colleague received, on behalf of Swallow-a-Bicycle, The Colin Jackson and Arlene Strom Creative Placemaking Award at Calgary’s 2016 Mayor’s Lunch for Arts Champions.
